Your RV shouldn't smell musty.
Cleaned it, flushed the tanks, aired it out, and it's back. There's a reason, and the fix is a 15-minute install inside your rooftop AC.
The musty smell that still meets you at the door after all that has one reason for coming back. Here's what happened when these RV owners found it.
"The musty smell is gone and cooking smells have been eliminated. Easy install!"
"We fired it up yesterday after a month of storage and it was zero musty smell."
One honest note about the black tank: a bad toilet seal or a dry P-trap is a plumbing fix, and no air treatment replaces it. Fix it first.
So if the plumbing checks out and it still smells musty, where is that smell hiding? ↓
If your RV does any of these, keep reading:
- It smells fine for a day after you clean, then the musty smell is back
- You open it up after storage and the musty air is waiting at the door
- The black tank on a hot day, or the dog after a rainy campout, hangs in the air for hours
Three different moments, and they all come back for the same reason ↓
Why the musty smell keeps coming back
An RV spends a lot of its life closed up, and a closed-up RV holds on to damp air. The furniture, the clothes and the linens soak that damp up. Then every time the AC fan runs, it pushes the same musty air back through them.
So you can wipe every surface, wash the linens, flush and treat the tank, air it out on a dry day, and two days later the smell is back. Cleaning reaches the surfaces. The musty smell rides in the air, and the surfaces pick it right back up.
"Tired of the musty smell"
"flush system out weekly and put enzymes in to make it smell better and does not work."
You didn't fail. The cleaning hit the places the smell lands, and the smell was in the air the whole time. And the AC that keeps pushing that musty air around turns out to be the one thing in your RV that can clear it. First, why everything else wears off.
Why the usual fixes wear off
- Sprays, plug-ins and diffusers lay a scent over the smell, and it fades by morning.
- A roof fan helps while it runs. Close up and the smell is right where it was.
- Tank treatments and enzymes treat the tank, not the smell already in the air.
- Ozone machines mean everyone, the dog included, clears out while one runs. AIRLOCK One is not an ozone generator.
Each one works on a surface, a source or the next few hours. The fix has to treat the air every time it moves, and the rooftop AC moves it every time the fan runs.
The fix fits inside the rooftop AC you already run
AIRLOCK One is a 15-minute install inside the rooftop AC, ducted or non-ducted. It adds no scent, takes no counter space and has nothing to refill. The AC fan that kept pushing musty air around your RV now carries the fix with it.
How it works, in 3 steps
So how does something tucked inside the AC reach the couch, the kitchen and the dog bed?
It makes ions inside your AC
AIRLOCK One makes ions inside the rooftop AC.
Your AC fan spreads them
The AC fan carries them out through the vents with the air it moves.
They break down odor
They break down odor molecules in that air instead of covering them up.
UL 867 certified, CARB certified, and not an ozone generator.
Here's what RV owners noticed once it was in ↓
What RV owners notice now
"…it was almost to the point of giving up on my RV dream. Thanks to Airlock we're back on track."
"Prior to using this device we had to mask the dog smell, but now it's gone!"
"What it does is make it not smell at all. … I was skeptical, but gave it a try, and I'm very pleased that I did"
Next question: will it fit the AC on your roof?
Fits the rooftop AC you already have
- Ducted or non-ducted. It works with both.
- One per AC. A ducted system with several vents counts as one.
- 15-minute install from inside. Drop the ceiling grille, mount it, connect two wires.
- Runs on the AC's own power. It treats the air whenever the AC fan runs. When the RV's power is off, it's off.
So how does it stack up against the sprays and the ozone machine?

The first trip after storage
A parked RV holds the damp it was closed up with, and the clothes and linens soak it up. AIRLOCK One runs on the rooftop AC's power, so it was off while the RV sat unplugged. Plug in, run the AC fan, and it goes to work on that stored smell over your first trips out. After a long storage, plan on weeks of fan time.
"It has definitely helped with the stale air smell due to being stored in the summer heat."
That's Brad's story from the top of the page. His two units had been in the rooftop ACs for about a year before the Airstream sat for a month, and he fired up the AC on the way out.
Does it need power?
Yes. It runs on the rooftop AC's own power whenever the AC fan runs, with no outlet, battery or cord. When the RV's power is off, it's off.
What if it doesn't work in my RV?
Run it for up to 90 days. If you don't smell the difference, send it back.
